Peter 1:17-23 May 18, 2020

Peter 1:17-23 Ransomed

Passage is part of a section with the header " A Call to Holy Living" in my Bible. Author is addressing those who have come to know God thru faith in Jesus as the Christ.

Talks about living in the reverent fear of the Lord and then says that we know God has ransomed us from past, futile ways-not with silver or gold, but with what is imperishable-the blood of Jesus.

Uses sacrifice imagery-lamb without defect or blemish, fulfilling his destiny from the foundation of the world-becoming the ransom for our sin.

Result is that we are born anew, therefore our ransomed lives are to be by mutual love for one another and obedience to God's truth in Christ.

Question for me is-as one whose life Jesus has ransomed what are specific ways that I live out the mutual love for others (especially other believers) in a way that is obedient to God's truth?

Lord, show me how you would have me respond to this call to holy living as your ransomed child. Help me to recognize and act on opportunities I have to show my love to brothers and sisters in Christ-as well as to others.
