Acts 2:36-41 Promise

Passage includes last sentence of Peter's Pentecost sermon and the people's response who were gathered in Jerusalem for that annual Jewish festival.

Upon hearing that Jesus, the one who had been crucified, was Messiah, text says they were "cut to the heart" and asked what to do. Peter's answer was for them to repent, be baptized in Jesus' name to receive forgiveness of sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Then he told them that the promise was for them, their children, for everyone who God calls to himself.

The word promise is one that seems signigificant to me. Somewhat because I'm not exactly sure what promise Peter is referring to? Seems likely that it is the whole series of steps he has just given: repent, be baptized in Jesus name , receive forgiveness of sin and the gift of the Holy Spirit.

That's a promise I want to continue to live in to at this point in my  life: repent (turn away) from all that keeps me from God's best, daily be baptized in my faith, Jesus to be forgiving of my sin and to receive power and guidance from the Holy Spirit, to live in a way that pleases God and blesses others. Amen
